I created another slew of illustrations for Appaman several months ago. Here are a few of the rejected designs for the upcoming Girls 2012 Fall/Winter collection. Can't wait to get my hands on a few of the final pieces when they are finally out.

Last week I just arrived home from a 2+ weeks trip in the USA, bouncing around in three different States with multiple stopovers and way too many airports and travel days. Reminded me of these book illustrations I recently created for a very young reader for Happy House where Dad looses his bag. And damn.....it had the ham and jam!

The Sunflowers' newest CD, Porcupine Parade, will be released later this month. The illustration was a blast to work on and I think the entire package turned out wonderfully.

My illustrations for the 2012 Spring/Summer girls clothing line at Appaman have now been released. Unfortunately it is still 2011! So it's only a preview and we have to wait a bit longer to order some of these ridiculously cute onesies and swimsuits for the little kiddos. Earlier this month I finished up a great little book project about a boy wanting to to become a pilot. A new record for me, 12 paintings in 14 days. Admittedly, I did spend one night sleeping at the studio. Regardless, looking forward to seeing the book in print soon.

Baby Feelings Board Book

Baby Feelings, a board book by Parenting Counts Press, was just released this Spring. This is my second book release with the Talaris Institute in Seattle and is the companion book to the picture book, Big Feelings. The book is beautifully designed in thanks to the folks at Enso Design.

The challenge in this book was keeping the illustrations subtle so as to not distract from the photography. I think it turned out really nice, but I'm looking forward to seeing it in person since I don't have one in my hands yet. You can get them online here!

Just finished this jungle poster for Pearson Education. Fun stuff. The sloth is definitely my favorite. And just how is it that the Sloth being as slow as molasses has been able to outwit the law as we know it - survival of the fittest. I mean, can they run? If in dire need, if in danger, can they move kind of fast?

Today really is my birthday. Since I'm on a steady diet of nothing but work, I can't think of a better way of celebrating than at least to be doing it with another fun Schmitty Calendar piece. Funny thing is, I haven't been thinking of cake at all. Nope. I just can't get my mind off that beautiful dirty martini that I will be slugging down tonight when I actually get my butt into NYC this evening for some birthday dinner celebrating. Somewhere swanky, in the meatpacking district. I dunno where yet - it's a surprise!

SUPER HERO?

Earlier this summer I was working on the rough sketches for a Young Reader book with MacMillan over in the UK. The story is a classic period piece - Aladdin. Oddly enough, it's a British publisher, marketing the book in Egypt and they've commissioned me - an American Illustrator.

I got started on the finals a month ago and it's a fairly large book with 35 illustrations plus the cover. At this point, I'm pretty much having to whip out a final illustration a day! On the flip side of having no social life this summer and pretty much being chained to my desk, I almost feel like I've become a super hero, working at supersonic speed and grace............uh. Right.
